What a year! I have been busy. MODECOR has been busy. Busy in a great way, doing the thing I love most. Design, decor, searching for inspiration, tending to the build of our new condo and of course being Grammo to Baby Bean who became Jaxson and is now almost 6 months old. If you are a regular reader you will know that I mostly post original content with my own original photos. This is one of the reasons I'm not a consistent blogger. Writing informative posts with accompanying photos takes a huge amount of time and effort. Kudos to those bloggers out there who consistently write and post on a regular basis and have captured their audience. I know some of these bloggers personally and they are working hard, hard, hard on what they love to do too.
Some of you may also know that I am a very proud TBB and contributor to The TBB Wine Dine and Design blog. By golly we have fun together and impart some interesting stuff, like how to make a fab soup, how to have a blast in Toronto at the Interior Design Show and how to chose a wine for Friday Night Wine Pick. We love wine ....ALOT!!! By last count, we had almost 400,00 visits in just over 16 months. Someone likes us...they REALLY like us!
Back to MODECOR
Last year I had a few smaller jobs that kept me on my toes. Most of these jobs however, were less hands on for me, more consultation and less involvement in the actual finished product. Several colour consultations, a downsizing move, window treatments a few floor plans and furniture layouts. I decided very early on, that if I am not involved in a job from start to finish, I will not post photos on my website or blog unless it is a meaningful vignette or pertinent to the post. My biggest and most personally rewarding design job was Jaxson's (Bean's) Nursery....which BTW was written up in Ottawa at Home Magazine in HI /LOW decorating article.
While I was finishing up on this labour of love, a fellow designer and fellow TBB Sonya Kinkade of Sonya Kinkade Design asked if I would partner with her on some of the design jobs she had been working on....Hell's ya! Since last June, I've worked with Sonya on a cottage set up and reveal, a small wedding, a Christmas Holiday House fundraiser, a small spa set up and a BIGGY and ongoing job ...7 model homes for a local builder. More pics of the aforementioned jobs to follow, but for now I will show you a quick teaser of the some of the finishes we have chosen and concept boards we have designed for the Model Home job.
Each home has a distinct personality. Some have mostly standard finishes and others are chock a block full of upgrades. Careful thought about future buyers, cost of home, location and style of each home has determined every single decision we have made with regard to finishes and how we will proceed to decorate each model. We will be sharing more on my blog and Sonya's blog Abode in the future.
It is important for Interior Decorators and Design consultants to find their unique niche. You may have noticed that I have a new website with a larger photo gallery. There are still a few tweaks to be made...it's a work in progress. I have also been working on branding MODECOR into the niche that is a perfect fit for me.
Do keep in touch...I enjoy dishing about my design process, the ups and downs, frustrations, highlights, reveals, and every nook and cranny in between.
